Lions World Sight Day Walk 2011 - St Georges Park Great Yarmouth.
.Blind Fold Walk in the Park 2011 was onge again organised by Chris Stanley for Great Yarmouth Lions Club in St Georges Park on Sat 15th October.
His worship the Mayor, Councillor Barry Coleman led the walk around the park wearing a blindfold, guided by the Mayoress.
The circuit was broken when the Mayor assisted Lions David and Maureen Armes in the official planting of a Lime tree to promote the Lions Tree for Life incentive. Lion President Denise Freeman was on hand to give her support, Maureen and David were chosen to plant tree to also celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on the same day.
The Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind sent a big contingent, along with the VIP group (Visualy impaired group} they brought a demonstrator for all to try which highlighted problems experienced by blind people. Quite simply a closed box with a 13 amp socket inside plus a portable mp3 player which had to be assembled "in the dark" to play a tune. Lion David Pye said. "It really brought home how difficult life is for those who cannot see, the switch, the cables and the sockets are not designed with the blind in mind"
Ex Canary and now experienced charity cyclist Jeremy Goss was there with his bike following his recent trip across Europe for the NNAB. All of this was accompanied by the stirring marching band of the boys and girls from TS Warrior, they were outstanding and a credit to the young of the borough and the adults who give up their time to serve others.
